Almost 70% of Marginal Farmers Supplement Income With Non-Farm Activities: DIU Report

A recent study conducted by the Development Intelligence Unit of the Transforming Rural India Foundation and Sambodhi reveals that nearly 70% of marginal farmers in 20 Indian states engage in non-farm activities to supplement their agricultural income. The study surveyed over 6,000 marginal farmer households and found that 78% of farmers are involved in daily wage labor activities such as road construction and house construction. The report highlights the persistence of farmers in farming despite low profits and natural calamities, and sheds light on their engagement in various non-agricultural ventures.
